The Importance of Strength
Strength is a strong indicator for performance success, especially when trying to achieve an edge on the field or in real life situations. Without a base level of strength, movement is not possible. Furthermore, when you are able to overload and continuously adapt to a higher level of stress using loaded versions of basic human movement patterns, improvements in all types of capacity become both distinguished and obvious.* This means that if you can lift more weight, safely, you can perform all other activities, including isolated movements and cardiovascular training, more easily, leading to better workouts, and more physically demanding jobs completed in less time.
Why The Healthy Gym is Different
In this class, you will learn how to perform, and improve at, the primary barbell lifts, such as the squat, deadlift and overhead press, along with other movements we believe are necessary for long term progress, including pulling movements like pull-downs and chin-ups, dumbbell pressing variations, unilateral work, core stabilization and variations in strongman training. Whether you are just starting out and want to get it right from the start, or are trying to hit a new personal record and want to make sure you are doing things correctly and safely, our class can help. With its unique structure, which runs beginner, intermediate, and advanced programming, any age group or skill level can participate and experience long term progress, using simple and easy to follow progressions. Its like having a personal trainer, without the cost.
Achieve Impressive Results Training just Twice/Week
While it is popular to falsely promise better results in less time, when discussing strength training, more is not always better. One’s ability to handle more work (both strength and cardiovascular) will always depend on a number of factors, including age, history of training, past injuries, stress levels, nutrition, sleep, recovery capability and overall health status. However, for a vast majority of individuals, especially those who have no experience, are overcoming injury, are advanced in their age, or have never trained correctly, training consistently, just twice each week is enough stimulus until reaching a more intermediate status or beginning to crave more training. As long as your strength is consistently improving, more work is not necessary. If you aren’t convinced, check out these results, which speak speak for themselves.

*IMPORTANT NOTE
This is NOT a bootcamp, circuit training, or any other type of class which attempts to combine a number of fitness metrics (eg., aerobic, endurance, flexibility, strength, etc), into one session, in order to achieve (primarily) a high caloric expenditure and, usually, a sense of fatigue. This, more common, type of approach (separate from a consistent caloric manipulation), only works for a short period of time, often leading to frustration. Our first goal is to improve your proficiency in the primary lifts, which, when strengthened past the beginner's stage, will allow you to train much more intensely, even if you choose to try another training method or challenging activity (ie, recreational sport), outside of our gym. Most importantly, all physical pursuits in life will be improved. Having more muscle and being stronger in the basic human movements will lead to better results and outcomes in the long term, no matter what you pursue.
Therefore, understand that most individuals will NOT find this class particularly challenging at the start, but will only realize it's true benefit when they have been able to maintain consistent adherence to the program for at least a few weeks, but more likely a few months.
